Below is a listing of current and recent projects to reduce and/or prevent alcohol-related harm in Western Australia. *** Project Title: Alcohol and Pregnancy: Health Promotion Messages that Work Type of Project: Formative research Location: Perth, Western Australia Run by: Edith Cowan University (Healthway funded) Dates: 2009-2010 Target Group: Women of child-bearing age, including women planning a pregnancy and pregnant women Aims: 1. To develop a range of messages suitable for a communication campaign for women of childbearing age, pregnant women and women planning a pregnancy about alcohol use in pregnancy. 2. To identify the message(s) that most effectively increase the intentions of women of childbearing age, pregnant women and women planning a pregnancy to reduce or abstain from alcohol during pregnancy. Type of Project: Research Location: Perth, Rockingham, Kalgoorlie Run by: ICCWA Dates: 2008-2009 Target Group: Staff at licensed premises Aims: To understand the factors that lead staff at licensed premises to serve patrons to intoxication; to develop new strategies to encourage responsible service. *** Project Title: Safer Bars WA Type of Project: Pilot- Intervention Location: Metropolitan Perth Run by: ICCWA Dates: 2008-2010 Target Group: Crowd Controllers and other staff at licensed premises Aims: To adapt and pilot the Safer Bars training package for Western Australia as a means to reduce violent incidents in and around licensed premises through up-skilling licensed premise staff.
