About WACAN

What is WACAN?

The WA Community Alcohol Network [WACAN] is an informal, state-wide and inter-sectoral network of Western Australian community, non-government and government organisations and individuals with an interest in reducing the problems associated with alcohol use.

What does WACAN do?

WACAN aims to foster public awareness of and reduce the problems associated with alcohol use by challenging alcohol related social rituals and WA’s drinking culture.

The objectives of WACAN are:

  •  To encourage safe and responsible drinking environments;
  •  To challenge instances of unsafe and/or excessive alcohol use;
  •  To generate discussion around alcohol issues through disseminating and responding to current information;
  •  To stimulate community support for implementing strategies that assist in reducing the problems associated with alcohol use;
  •  To assist community efforts by providing the community with practical tools to respond to alcohol-related concerns;
  •  To advocate on behalf of the community for the implementation of evidence based strategies;
  •  To monitor and challenge alcohol advertising and marketing.

Who should join?
