Our Board

ICCWA is an incorporated, non-government, not-for-profit organisation. It is made up of corporate and individual members with a wide range of injury interest. Members are from government and non-government agencies, not-for-profit groups, corporate bodies and individuals with an interest in injury prevention.

Management and Governance Structure
ICCWA is governed by a Board of Directors, which is elected from, and by members at the annual general meeting. Membership of the Board is voluntary. The Council Executive Committee comprising the President, Vice President, and Treasurer, with the assistance of the CEO, oversees the business of the Council. The Chief Executive Officer assists the Executive Committee in the work of the Council and provides support with special projects.

Chris Peck

Mr Chris Peck – President
Chris brings to ICCWA a strong knowledge background and network in injury prevention, especially in aquatics. Chris has worked for and cooperated professionally with aquatic safety organisations, industry bodies and government agencies for 18 years. Currently the Operations Manager for Surf Life Saving WA, Chris is also a Lead Auditor in Management Systems for ISO 9001, 14001 AND as 4801. Chris is passionate about injury prevention, believing individual and community capacity building is a cornerstone to safety and well being.


David Beattie 001

Mr David Beattie – Treasurer
David has worked in general and financial management for more than 25 years, most of these in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer. He is currently self employed as a financial and management consultant and has recently joined the board of the Children’s Services Support Unit, a WA based not-for-profit organisation. In previous roles David has been Treasurer for the WA Organic Growers Association and the WA branch of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, both for more than 10 years, and a committee member with the Friends of Bold Park for some 5 years. Prior to joining the ICCWA Board in 2007 David was retained as a consultant to review ICCWA’s financial reports, policies and procedures. This allowed David to become familiar with ICCWA’s operations and objectives and provided a good foundation for bringing his extensive business experience and financial discipline to the running of ICCWA’s affairs.

Dr Rina Cercarelli
Dr Rina Cercarelli has conducted research in the area of injury prevention for the last 20 years. She has recently conducted research on road safety, childhood injury, interpersonal violence, falls prevention, and injuries involving Indigenous people. Her research has been published in a wide range of peer reviewed, international journals, and much of her research has led to significant changes in injury prevention policy in this State and nationally. Previously, she was Director and Deputy Director of the Injury Research Centre at The University of Western Australia and a previous President of the Injury Control Council of Western Australia. Dr Cercarelli is a Ministerial appointment to the Consumer Product Safety Committee, and is a current member of the Local Government Road Safety Committee.

Associate Professor Richard Midford
Richard Midford is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the Australian Indigenous Health InfoNet at Edith Cowan University. This is a comprehensive web based resource designed to inform and support those working in the area of Indigenous Health.  He also holds a joint appointment as Associate Professor at the National Drug Research Institute. He is interested in the synthesis and dissemination of research evidence as a way of improving health services, the prevention of alcohol and other drug problems in Indigenous communities, how harm prevention programs can be developed in partnership with local communities, prevention of harm in workplace settings and in the development of effective school drug eduction.  He has published over 100 journal articles, monographs, books and book chapters on his work.

Ms Terri-Anne Pettet – Vice President
Terri-Anne has 11 years experience in injury prevention, with a focus on road safety, including roles in: research, policy development, program delivery and administration. Terri-Anne completed a Bachelor of Science (Health Promotion) degree before working as a research assistant.  From 1998-2001 Terri Anne worked in regional WA as a Road Safety Officer.   Since 2002 she has managed the WA Local Government Association’s RoadWise Program.  The Local Government and Community Road Safety Program aims to contribute to the elimination of road crashes as a major cause of death and serious injury.

Julian new

Dr Julian Dooley
Dr Julian Dooley is Senior 
Research Fellow and Scientific Director of Cyber-bullying research at the Child Health Promotion Research Centre at Edith Cowan University.  He completed his PhD in Psychology in 2007 at the University of Melbourne where his research addressed social behaviours after childhood traumatic brain injury.  While completing his PhD, Dr Dooley worked at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and the Royal Children’s Hospital examining the social, cognitive, behavioural and psychological effects of various types of intentional and unintentional brain injuries.   Before coming to Australia, Dr Dooley worked as a Clinical Forensic Psychologist in an adult court psychiatric clinic (Cleveland, Ohio) doing court ordered psychological evaluations.  Since completing his PhD, Dr Dooley has won numerous competitive grants and his research has been published in prestigious scientific journals.  Dr Dooley currently oversees a number of cyber-bulling intervention research projects as well as a project for the Australian Government reviewing all aspects concerning the safe use of technology.

Ms Amberlee Laws
Amberlee graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion in 2003.   She is currently the Manager of Mentally Healthy WA’s Act-Belong-Commit Campaign at Curtin University.  Amberlee previously worked for the Shire of Meekatharra as a Youth and Recreation Coordinator and more recently for WA Country Health Service as a local Project Officer for the Act-Belong-Commit Campaign in the Wheatbelt.  Amberlee’s passion is building the capacity of communities to offer opportunities for healthy engagement and thus strengthening community cohesion.
