Injury Prevention Sector Development Project (2011-2013)

This project is continuing on from the previous “Injury Prevention Professional Development and Capacity Building Project.”
Under previous agreements, ICCWA has facilitated regular networking and professional development opportunities for health professionals working in injury prevention (IP) and community safety (CS) in regional and remote Western Australia.
The focus of this project is on extending this work to encourage greater consultation and collaboration amongst stakeholders, particularly between data managers, researchers and practitioners. This project will also support a review of injury prevention priorities, identification of trends and translation of research into practice.
Project Aim
To facilitate informed and evidence-based decision making in order to achieve a reduction in the number of injury related hospitalisations and deaths in WA.
Expected Deliverables/Outcomes
Over the next two years, ICCWA will be working towards the following:
- Promotion and distribution of the Injury Prevention & Community Safety Programs/Projects 2008-2011 resource.
- Coordination of professional development forums to facilitate networking and the presentation of current research and data topics to relevant practitioner groups and other intrested stakeholders.
- Investigate, review and prepare an overview of six key injury priority areas in collaboration with key stakeholders. This includes coordinating consultations with and between the key stakeholder groups.
- In collaboration with key stakeholder groups and the Department of Health WA, coordinate an Injury Prevention Summit in late 2012.
- Produce and publish an Injury Stakeholders E-Directory that lists all key injury stakeholders in WA and other key significant state injury representatives.
- Coordinate regular networking opportunities with injury prevention professionals in rural and remote WA and provide professional development opportunities where possible.
